Adelaide Ruiz-Ginny Fuchs Interim WBC Title Fight Comes Aug. 31 Pacheco-Sulecki Card

Cap'n gets his first dig at buried treasure.

Ginny Fuchs will compete in her first pro bout in over a year. It was worth the wait for the 2020 US Olympian, who will challenge interim WBC junior bantamweight Adelaida Ruiz. Their scheduled ten-round bout is set for August 31 on the Diego Pacheco-Maciej Sulecki DAZN undercard from the Dignity Health Sports Center in Carson, California.

“Finally, I am happy to announce that I will fight for the WBC Interim Super Flyweight title,” Fuchs wrote on social media. “I was waiting for this opportunity to reach another level. Thank you @matchroomboxing for making this happen.”

Los Angeles' Ruiz (16-0-1, 8 knockouts) is trying to make the first defense of the WBC interim title that he has held in almost two years. It serves as a home run for the 35-year-old, who has been out of the 115-pound limit four times since claiming his second title.

The fight is also a quick turnaround for Ruiz. She defeated Catherine Tacone Ramos of Brazil by an eight-round unanimous decision on July 20 in San Juan de Tibas, Costa Rica. The bout worked in favor of Yokasta Valle knocking out Ramandeep Kaur in the second round.

It's also a quick return to the ring for Fuchs, who has kept himself active through his participation in the Team Combat League. The 36-year-old southpaw from Houston is 14-2 on that circuit, where participants fight two rounds of one round per show. All 16 TCL ring appearances (eight shows) came in 2024 in anticipation of the scheduled fight.

Fuchs (3-0, 1 KO) has not fought in a sanctioned tournament in over 14 months.

His last official fight was a 20-point eight-round victory over Indeya Smith last June 20 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was Fuchs' only fight of 2023, after two fights in 2022 in shows featuring her best friend and undefeated 130-pound titleholder Mikaela Mayer (19-2, 5 KOs).

Fuchs—a mental health advocate who battles OCD—is the first member of the 2020 US boxing team to compete in any variation of a major title.
