Man Utd develop new 'formula' to sign Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United are now hoping to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on loan with an obligation to buy, according to a report.
The Red Devils are hoping to sign a new midfielder before the end of the transfer window, and Ugarte is a top priority.
Talks between United and PSG have stalled in recent weeks due to the French champions' refusal to budge on their €60m (£51m) asking price.
In accordance with Fabrizio RomanoUnited are hoping to try a different 'formula' to bring in Ugarte without paying that fee this summer.
United's plan now is to sign Ugarte on an initial loan, but with a mandatory buyout clause. Negotiations are being led by agent Jorge Mendes, and Ugarte has agreed personal terms over a move to Old Trafford in July.
French shop L'Equipe it was first reported in early August that PSG would consider taking Ugarte on loan following the arrival of midfielder Joao Neves from Benfica, but only if they received a big fee up front and a 'high buyout offer'.
Although United have signed four big players so far this window, they have not strengthened their midfield options. Striker Joshua Zirkzee was the first through the door, while defenders Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have signed for the Red Devils.
United got their 2024/25 Premier League campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win at home to Fulham on Friday, with Zirkzee coming off the bench to score once in the game.
PSG, meanwhile, started the Ligue 1 season with a 4-1 win at Le Havre, but needed three goals beyond the 85th minute to take the three points. Ugarte was not named in the matchday squad.
