Skye Nicolson-Raven Chapman WBC Title Fight Comes Oct. 12 Riyadh Season Card

Skye Nicolson and Raven Chapman will break new ground in the Middle East.

The first women's charm belt for the Riyadh Season show is here. Nicolson from Australia is about to defend his WBC featherweight title in a dangerous way against Chapman from England. The scheduled ten-round competition is scheduled for Oct. 12, on the Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol undercard at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The news about this fight was revealed by Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority. The event is part of the ongoing Riyadh Season boxing series, which began last October 28.

Six shows have taken place so far, including its debut on August 3 in the US. The UK kicks off on September 21, with the Daniel Dubois-Anthony Joshua IBF heavyweight fight at Wembley Stadium, London.

It's been a tight leg between more than 60 bouts of grace on those seven cards, with more to come on the September 21 show. Nicolson-Chapman is the only women's boxing match among the eight fights featured on October 12.

Nevertheless, it is an important moment that warrants recognition and excellent encounters. Nicolson (11-0, 1 knockout), 28, is The Ring's No. 1-rated featherweight. Chapman (9-0, 2 KOs), 30, is No. 5.

The couple has been in talks since they were both budding contestants. Nicolson – a native of Yatala, Australia who trains in England – upped the ante first when he claimed the interim WBC featherweight title.

The 2020 Olympic quarterfinalist defeated Sabrina Maribel Perez over ten rounds on September 15 in Tijuana, Mexico. One successful defense followed before an opportunity arose to challenge the full version of the belt vacated by RING/unified champion Amanda Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs).

Nicolson opened with a ten-round stoppage over former IBF titleholder Sarah Mahfoud (14-2, 3 KOs) to promote her title on April 6 in Las Vegas. The Aussie southpaw retained the title after winning all ten rounds against Diana Vargas (19-2, 12 KOs) on July 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His best run came in just over two years as champion.

Chapman (9-0, 2 KOs) has also blossomed quickly as he enters his first title fight.

The talented boxer from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK has received positive reviews since his debut in September 2021. The biggest increase in competition came in just his fourth fight. Chapman outlasted former title challenger Jorgelina Guarini (10-5-2, 1 KO) in the September 2022 show that saw Serrano defeat Mahfoud in their WBC/IBF/WBO unification bout.

The rise in title contention continued with convincing wins over Lila dos Santos Furtado and Yohana Salabia who were then undefeated over the past twelve months.

The placement of this fight in Riyadh is the first—and hopefully not the only—step toward the series organizers not seeing women in boxing. The country's gender equality laws have only emerged in the last few years but there is still a long way to go.
