A major concern for Tottenham fans as Dominic Solanke is suffering from an ankle injury
Tottenham's new signing Dominic Solanke will not be fit for Spurs' first home game of the season against Everton on Saturday, his manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.
The striker made his debut for the North London club on Monday night when Tottenham drew 1-1 with Leicester City but he left the game injured.
Postecoglou confirmed to the media on Friday that the 26-year-old suffered an ankle problem and will miss Spurs' first home game of the season on Saturday against Everton.
“Dom got a goal in the last game. He finished the game but stood out the next day. He will miss tomorrow,” said the Australian coach via The Independent.
“Ankle injury. He caught it very early in the morning, and someone fell on his ankle. He will definitely come out tomorrow.”
This is a big blow for Tottenham as the North London club do not have strong options for the striker role and Postecoglou would like Solanke to get up to speed quickly. The England international's injury means Everton are just one game away from doing so and it remains to be seen how long the former Bournemouth star will last.
Dominic Solanke has a great season ahead of him at Tottenham
Solanke joined Tottenham ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as part of a £65m deal with Bournemouth. The striker is the same Postecoglou who replaced Harry Kane last summer and the Australian coach will hope he is as good as the Spurs legend.
The 26-year-old had the best season of his career in the 2023/24 campaign and is now set to test himself at the highest level.
The Englishman is a brilliant footballer and is expected to improve at Tottenham, however, this ankle injury is not the ideal way to start his career for the North London outfit.
