Hearing Chris Paul talk about the importance of his family is not real news, as it has been known since he started his basketball career that this is one of the priorities in his life. However, when the NBA veteran released his book Sixty-One: Life Lessons From Dad, On and Off the Courthe went deeper into why these are his values.
The new Spurs star not only spoke about his career aspirations and family values, but also paid tribute to his late grandfather, Nathaniel Jones, and the incredible impact he had on his life. As critics say, “Jones was Paul's mentor and taught him many life lessons when he was young.”
The title of the book Sixty one tied into this legacy, as it serves as a symbolic reference to a high school game in which Chris competed after his grandfather passed away, and went on to score 61 points that night. Amazingly, each point in that game represented a year of Nathaniel's life.

In a podcast interview posted before the release of his book in 2023, CP3 spoke about his loss. “When I think about my grandfather and his death, many times when I ride in town I think, 'Oh, my father and I used to eat there after church, or we used to go. do this and do that,' and now in this life time, I try to share all those stories with my children.
“It's one of those things where you really don't realize what you have until it's gone,” he shared with great emotion. “So, brother, we have been fighting for the front seat. On top of this and that, and when we left them at school, that's when I missed them because you can see that all those times you start to appreciate fighting because you had someone to do it with.”
Paul still cherished his time in Golden State, and recognized the greatness of the franchise. “Obviously it's a tough competition, you know, so going to a team with guys with that pedigree, they've shown the ability to do it over and over with the coaching staff and the old-time organization,” he said.
“So, just as I'm still playing, I still love to learn, you know, so I'm happy to join this team, this organization, and see how I can be a part of the team or be a part of the puzzle to help, help our team win,” the player admitted.
The Future Hall of Famer recently revealed that he is not retiring yet because playing in the NBA is 'Very Fun'.
Chris Paul finished his 19th NBA campaign after one season in Golden State, and averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game while making shots. 44.1% from the field and 37.1% from beyond the arc in 58 games. Not bad, for a 39-year-old.
Now, he's preparing for another challenge outside of California, having signed a new contract in San Antonio to end two decades of professional basketball. While many believed the future Hall of Famer was ready to retire, he recently confirmed that he's “very happy” in the league and wants to stay in it.
“I think what keeps me going is fun. “I get the chance to play basketball every day and that's my way of life,” said the point guard FS1Colin Cowherd while explaining the reasons why he is still competing and going strong.
“I get the chance to take care of my family. I have a family, I have my children, I get the chance to compete, I have been hooping since I was four or five years old. I still get the chance to do that at a high level, and I don't take it for granted,” he added.
