Ligue 1 side Lens are targeting Man Utd defender Teden Mengi

French club RC Lens are planning a loan move for Luton Town defender Teden Mengi, according to reports.

Mengi left Manchester United to join Luton Town after they were promoted to the Premier League last summer and made 35 appearances in all competitions in 2023/24, but was unable to prevent the Hatters from being quickly relegated back to the Championship.

However, Mengi was one of Luton's best players, ranking first among his Premier League team-mates in passes (57) and clearances (136).

According to a report from Foot Mercato (via Football League World) earlier this summer, Mengi's form attracted the attention of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Nice, although it never materialised.

Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore also told CaughtOffside back in April he estimated Mengi that he would 'drive him to Villa Park tomorrow' to complete the transaction.

“I'm not the only one who noticed that he has all the background, the desire to leave United at 21 to go on his own,” he said in a special interview.

“I was impressed with the way he played and I'm sure he will be on the radar of many “big teams”.

“He has played for England at all age levels so he will have an A+ club and international base. Personally, I would take him to Villa Park tomorrow if he likes Unai Emery.”

A recent report from Foot Mercato (via Get Football News France) has identified Lens as the latest suitor for Mengi.

The Ligue 1 side are said to be looking to secure the 22-year-old on a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent next summer.

Lens are looking for centre-back Kevin Danso from Austria who is reportedly wanted by Italian giants Roma.

Mengi has made two appearances for Luton this season, playing the full 90 minutes in the Hatters' 4-1 defeat by Burnley and 0-0 draw with Portsmouth to open the new Championship season.
