The star of Man Utd who won 6 duels was the bright light vs Brighton

Manchester United lost for the first time in the Premier League season, losing 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion on the South Coast. The Red Devils had moments of controlling the game at times too, but eventually conceded all three points in a frustrated affair.

It was Carrington academy graduate Danny Welbeck who gave the Seagulls the lead in the first half, scoring his 100th goal from inside the six-yard box. United managed to equalize on the hour mark, thanks to a late goal from the 22-year-old Ivorian, Amad, who has had a difficult week following the death of a close family member.

Moments later, Alejandro Garnacho thought he had given United the lead, after finishing a direct attacking move. However, his goal hit the knee of Joshua Zirkzee who was offside and the goal was ruled out.

United's hearts were broken in the fifth of seven minutes of added time, Joao Pedro heading in a free after giving Brighton all three points. Even though they lost, the Red Devils players still played well, including the goalscorer Amad.

Statistics of Amad vs. Brighton

22-year-old Amad restored Erik ten Hag's faith three times in a row with his first goal of the season. Although there was some luck, a great deflection from a slippery Brighton defender, it was a good play to cut inside on his left foot and into a good shooting position, finally giving United the lead.

It was a pity that his first goal did not come earlier. Diogo Dalot played a wonderful cross into the path of the lad, who was able to direct the ball past Jason Steele with his left foot.

Indeed, the former Sunderland loanee was praised by Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst for his performance at the AMEX Stadium. He was given 6/10 by the journalist, who criticized him for finishing Dalot's ball, but explained that he 'made up for' his miss with his equaliser.

Amad's statistics on Sofascore also showed the impact he had in the game against Brighton. The Red Devils' number 16 touched 53 times at the AMEX Stadium, completing 41 of 32 passes, with an accuracy rate of 78%. He also played one important ball and won three ground duels, a strong day on the South Coast.

Dalot vs. Brighton

The player who probably did better than the young Ivorian for United was the man who almost stopped him in the first half, Dalot. The Portuguese made an impressive appearance at left back, moving up and down the flank.

He was also given a 6/10 rating from Luckhurst, who explained that the Portuguese defender 'crosses well for Amad', although the Ivorian puts it too much. Indeed, it was a peach of a cross from United's number 20.

He got on the end of his deflected header, which came from Andre Onana's long ball. Charging down the left wing, Dalot lifted it to Amad at the far post with his weak left foot, but the chance was wasted.

The 25-year-old's statistics on Sofascore also showed how good he was. He had 83 touches, 55 of 61 passes and 90% accuracy. Defensively, the full-back was excellent, winning six duels in total, and he also pulled off a crucial goal from James Milner's ball.

The former Porto academy graduate was impressive last season for the Red Devils, and looks set to continue to do so in the 2024/25 season. He will certainly be hoping this momentum can continue in week three when United host Liverpool at Old Trafford.
