Eddie Nketiah's proposed transfer away from Arsenal is 'falling apart'

Nottingham Forest are believed to have failed in their bid to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The two-time European champions are on the hunt for a new striker before the transfer window closes on Friday and have identified Nketiah as one of their targets.

Athletic's David Ornstein reports that Forest were close to completing a deal for the 25-year-old after agreeing a £30m package with Arsenal.

However, problems arose during the negotiations regarding the personal terms and the talks broke down.

Although Nketiah will not be heading to the City Ground, he is 'expected' to leave Arsenal before the transfer deadline. Marseille wanted him at the beginning of the window but the new approach will surprise them as they recently signed Elye Wahi from Lens.

Nketiah has not been used as a substitute in Arsenal's two Premier League games so far this season – 2-0 wins against Wolves and Aston Villa – and game time has been reduced towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Having made his England debut last year, he has been left out of Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad and is unlikely to return to the Three Lions if he is left out in the cold at club level.

Forest, meanwhile, are advancing talks with Feyenoord over Santiago Gimenez, according to Fabrizio Romano. Their latest bid is believed to be worth £28m including add-ons, which would represent a club record sale for Feyenoord if they agree.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have started the 2024/25 campaign unbeaten. Despite a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth last week, Forest beat Southampton 1-0 at St Mary's on Saturday.
