Virgil van Dijk responds to the Klopp-Slot comparison after Liverpool's win

Virgil van Dijk says he and his Liverpool teammates want to move on from the Jürgen Klopp era and focus on new manager Arne Slot.

Slott won his first competitive games in charge of Liverpool by a 2-0 scoreline, including against Brentford on his debut at Anfield.

There's a lot to like about Liverpool's performance under the Dutchman so far, with attacking fluidity and defensive solidity.

But there is also a more measured approach to the Reds compared to the high-profile football played under Klopp.

Van Dijk responds to Klopp-Slot comparisons

Speaking after Sunday's win at Anfield, Van Dijk looked back fondly on an 'incredible' time under Klopp, but was quick to call out comparisons between the German and Slott.

Instead, it's time to focus on making the best of Liverpool's new manager.

“Everything starts, it sounds silly, but we all defend together,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports. “If you see how quick they are to oppose us, we always follow the ball no matter what happens. It's a good start, something to build on, so let's see.

“The time with Jurgen was amazing. The time with Arne is now here. He has a certain way of playing outside, the way we defend, a lot of meetings, but very detailed. We see a lot of patterns when we have the ball and without it which gives us a lot of confidence and structure in the team.

“I'm not saying forget Jürgen's time, but that's gone. But we have a new manager and that's what we want to focus on, not compare managers.”
