Carlo Ancelotti denies the issue of tactics with Kylian Mbappe after the struggle of Real Valladolid
Carlo Ancelotti insists Kylian Mbappe will open his La Liga account soon after pulling off another empty net Real Valladolid won 3-0 on Sunday.
Mbappe scored on his UEFA Super Cup debut against Atalanta but has failed to find the net in his two La Liga appearances so far, raising questions about his fitness in the squad alongside Vinicius Junior.
Ancelotti, however, insisted Mbappe will remain Madrid's central striker and backed the Frenchman to regain his goalscoring touch soon.
Asked if Mbappe's position is a problem, Ancelotti insisted: “No, I don't think so at all.”
“He had three chances. I think in that situation he will score goals, as he always scores. I don't think he should play on the left or the right. He will score goals.”
Federico Valverde's second-half goal put Madrid 1-0 up when Mbappe was substituted in the 86th minute, but there was still time for two goals from Brahim Diaz and Mbappe's 18-year-old replacement Endrick.
Ancelotti praised the contribution of Brahim and Endrick in response to suggestions that the two could replace Mbappe and Vinicius Junior who have not performed well in the starting line-up.
“They are ready, they use the minutes I give them,” explained Ancelotti. “It's always strange as Lucas Vazquez is not on the list but he doesn't stop training.
“It makes me sad but it's my job, I have to choose the starters. Especially when the season starts with heat, the players get tired. I have to choose the players who are still growing on the field. The players should have more responsibilities on the field, I've already talked to them about it.”
