Chelsea 'move' to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Chelsea are in the process of trying to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney if he is to transfer Fees and salaries are “reasonable”, the report said.

Chelsea have just added 18-year-old Marc Guiu up front to back up Nicolas Jackson and manager Enzo Maresca has recently confirmed that the club will look for another striker if possible.

“I love Marc [Guiu]. But if we have a chance to bring in a number nine who can help us, we will try. Other than that, we're good,” he said before last weekend.

Toney has been linked with the Blues for some time. He refused to sign a new contract at Brentford and is now entering the final year of his contract there.

There is rival interest from Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, with Sky Sports reports that the offer from the Saudi Pro League side is “lucrative”. Chelsea cannot match him, but joining them would give the 28-year-old a chance to stay in the Premier League at this stage of his career.

Chelsea will need to agree a financial deal with Brentford, which Al Ahli have failed to do so far.

Toney has been left out of the Brentford squad for the start of 2024/25 while his future is decided. He missed the first half of last season due to a betting ban and finished the campaign with just four Premier League goals. But at his best last season, Toney hit 20 league goals as the Bees enjoyed a top-half finish.

Chelsea have held a long-term interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, whose transfer situation has been described as “blocked” and has proved difficult to resolve.
