Celtic make a late £5m bid to sign another new player

Celtic have now made a bid for another new player as the Hoops attempt to make a number of signings ahead of Friday's deadline.

Celtic transfer rumours

Brendan Rodgers' side have made a strong start to the Scottish Premiership campaign but have now lost midfielder Matt O'Riley, who joined Brighton & Hove Albion in a record move to Scotland. So, the money has to be there for Celtic to reinvest, and that's what Rodgers wants to happen, recently saying:

“We will not be happy to make our money and build our pot because the bottom line is on the field. That's what matters. Supporters, they pay money. I look back at the Covid times here, Celtic fans sold out the stadium and were not allowed in it.

“So we have the task of putting the best team on the field. That's what we're going to do and what we're looking to do. It took longer than I would have liked. But if we can do it on Friday, strengthen the squad, we will be in a really good place.

“The team is in a good place, mentally, tactically, and the way they play. But we want to strengthen and have that depth. It took longer than I would have liked as a football manager. That's my brutally honest answer to it. But I will repeat this. If we bring them in, it means there is a long season ahead. So it's important that we get that. And I hope we will.”

There have been bids for a number of players, including FC Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels, Los Angeles FC midfielder Mateusz Bogusz and Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen as the club look to replace O'Riley.

Chief executive Michael Nicholson and those behind Parkhead are showing no signs of stopping, however, with an update on another defender's bid emerging.

Celtic make £5m bid for Auston Trusty

According to reliable reporter Scott Burns of The Daily Record, Celtic have also made a £5m bid to sign Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty.

Dubbed “amazing” by former team-mate George Friend, Trusty has been linked with a move to Parkhead in recent weeks and the Hoops have now moved.

Burns says the Blades are reluctant to sell Trusty, who is under contract until 2027 but Celtic are pushing for a move for the 26-year-old, who could be a full-back or left-back.

The USA international moved to Bramall Lane from Arsenal just last year and made 34 appearances in all competitions, most of them in the Premier League. He has continued to feature this season under Chris Wilder, but from the looks of things, a move to Scotland could be on the cards.
