Aston Villa failed in late move to sign versatile PL midfielder on deadline day
Aston Villa are reportedly keen to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso before he completes a move to Real Betis on deadline day.
The 28-year-old Argentine has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in recent months and has managed a return to La Liga with Real Betis. However, Fabrizio Romano claims (h/t Give Me Sport) that Aston Villa were keen to sign him towards the end of the window and were pushing for a deal with the North London club.
However, the 28-year-old wanted to leave the Premier League and was determined to return to Spanish football. He has played for Real Betis before and was outstanding for them. The midfielder will look to get his career back on track with first-team action now.
Giovani Lo Celso would improve Aston Villa
He is versatile enough to fit into many attacking roles and could be a key player for Aston Villa. The West Midlands club need more quality and technical talent in the final third, and the experienced Argentine international would be a perfect fit. He played under Unai Emery during his time at Villarreal and knows the Spanish manager and his system very well. He could settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.
Aston Villa have done well to bring in a number of players this summer and it remains to be seen whether they can produce strong performances now. They managed to qualify for the Champions League this season and will once again look to finish in the top four. They will look to do well in domestic competitions as well.
Meanwhile, Tottenham will be happy to improve their squad this summer and do well to sack many of their young players.
