Golf Business News – Dubai Creek installs new irrigation system
Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is nearing completion of a major investment to completely overhaul and modernize its on-course irrigation system, and improve the course's condition.
This comprehensive project in the UAE area, which is due to be completed in October, will transform the way the golf course is managed and maintained, in addition to taking an important step in the club's sustainability journey.
Upgrades include the installation of new main lines, side lines, a state-of-the-art sprinkler system, and a state-of-the-art computer system. In total, more than 3,000 sprinklers and 40km Pipes will be installed to ensure full irrigation of all 18 holes, including all streets, roads, paths, and greens.
“The irrigation overhaul gives Dubai Creek the most advanced irrigation system available,” said David Taggart, Club Manager at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. “The golf course is our most important asset and water is our most important resource. By introducing this new system, Dubai Golf is demonstrating its commitment to providing the best playing conditions for members and guests, for many years to come. In addition, we will be able to target our resources in greater detail, saving valuable time and most importantly 30,000,000 liters of water per year.”
One of the outstanding features of this new system, installed in collaboration with Rain Bird, is the ability to control and monitor irrigation in real time with tablets and smart phones. This level of ingenuity and understanding allows golf course maintenance managers to better adapt to changing conditions and use the least amount of water needed to produce the best playing surfaces.
“Dubai Creek was named the number one golf destination in the UAE last year, and we are determined to continue to drive the club forward and improve the playing experience even further. With this significant investment, the maintenance team at Dubai Creek will be able to work more accurately and efficiently, and ultimately deliver a golf course that is in better shape than ever before,” said Chris May, CEO of Dubai Golf. “This is not just continuous improvement; it is a complete transformation designed to bring Dubai Creek to the forefront of sustainable agronomy practices but also to the attention of golfers worldwide as a must-visit golf destination.”
Taggart added: “Dubai Creek has built a significant legacy both locally and internationally since it opened in 1993. This substantial investment allows the club to continue to build on that legacy and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow. We are proud of the excellent work done by our Superintendent, Harry Wells and his team in providing them with state-of-the-art technology that allows them to continue to set the standard in an environmentally friendly manner.”
