The Arsenal legend believes that one summer transfer could provide an edge on the title
Paul Merson believes Arsenal's signing of Raheem Sterling could prove the difference in the Premier League title race this season.
The Gunners finished runners-up to Manchester City in each of the last two campaigns and even took the race to the final day in 2023/24 before losing.
City outscored Arsenal by six goals in 2022/23 and five last campaign, and Mikel Arteta's men just lacked the special ingredient to win their first title since Arsene Wenger's unbeaten 2003/04.
Merson backs 'amazing' Sterling to give Arsenal title
Arsenal have completed the shock transfer fee of Chelsea's Sterling on transfer deadline day.
Although he was released from Stamford Bridge, the England international is bringing an amazing generation to the Gunners, scoring 123 goals and 62 assists in 379 Premier League games for Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea.
That's not to mention doing it in Europe or the 82 games he played against England.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Arsenal's controversial 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday, Merson predicted that Sterling could give Arteta's side the edge they have lacked in recent years when chasing Man City.
“I think it's a fantastic signing for Arsenal, a fantastic signing,” Merson said (via TBR).
“You have to remember that Arsenal have finished five points and two points behind Man City in the last few seasons and have not been able to get over the line.
“They got someone who has proven to win, who has been there before, done it, even that experience to take the burden off Saka and Trossard and Martinelli. It's an amazing, amazing signing.”
