Charles Barkley Slams 'Jealous' WNBA Media for Caitlin Clark Treatment
Charles Barkley criticized the WNBA media for their negative messages about superstar Caitlin Clark.
“These women — and I'm a WNBA fan — couldn't screw up the Caitlin Clark thing if they tried,” Barkley said. The Bill Simmons Podcast this week. “People believe what we say on television. Because people don't like you or your personality, they can't go on TV and slander you. It's just complete bullshit.
“If you brought people into the room, a bunch of young men into the room, we wouldn't have come up with a clever plan for what these women did. This girl is amazing. The amount of attention, eyeballs brought to college and professionals, and that these women have this little jealousy. He says to himself, 'Dem, what's going on here?' And the thing I like about him, he doesn't say anything. But these women, whose sport I love and respect, could not fix this thing. It was very bad.”
A number of WNBA legends had no problem criticizing Clark on TV and social media.
One WNBA legend who has been labeled a 'Clark hater' is WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes.
About a month ago, Swoopes said that Indiana could still make the playoffs without Caitlin Clark, while Chicago would struggle without Angel Reese. Since then, the Fever have made the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 regular season thanks to Caitlin, while the Sky are eighth out of 12 teams in the WNBA.
And then as recently as this week, he was arguing with Stephen A. Smith for not mentioning Clark when talking about the success of Fever.
“All I can say is, it was very immature to come back to me like that. He called me a coward?, said Smith The Stephen A. Smith Show.”Because I called you for not doing your job? … I mean the bottom line is this: you're engaging at an immature level. Let's just call it what it is.”
