Golf Business News – Infinitum reopens Lakes Course following major renovation
INFINITUM's Lakes Course has reopened following an €800,000 renovation project, refurbishing one of Spain's best-known properties ahead of hosting the DP World Tour's Final Qualifying School Stage in November.
At the heart of the project was the refurbishment and re-imagining of the course accommodation, with the help of Greg Norman Design – the masterminds behind the original course design. As well as installing new drainage and sand replacement systems, many of the fairways have been moved to new strategic positions to make the Lakes course a more engaging challenge for the player.
Throughout this process, INFINITUM also took the opportunity to install a new type of grass, Zoysia, around each house. Zoysia grass requires significantly less water and fewer chemicals than comparable species, and is more resistant to foot traffic, representing another step forward in INFINITUM's sustainability mission.
Tour pros won't have to wait long to experience the new Lakes course, with the DP World Tour Qualifying School Finals running November 8-13 and Denmark-based ECCO Tour coming to INFINITUM for the first time in September.
Joaquín Mora Bertrán, Deputy General Manager of Golf, Beach Club and F&B at INFINITUM, said: “The renovation of the Lakes course has been one of our priorities for a long time and we are delighted with the result.
“Technical things in studies have changed a lot, making Lakes ordinary people–except where you have to think about where to put the ball with each shot. Obviously this will increase the challenge for our visiting coaches, but it will also provide a new and exciting experience for young players.”
The Lakes, designed by two-time Major winner Norman, opened near the top of the tour in 2008 and has become a staple of European golf. As we pass through the beautiful Sèquia Major wetlands, the course's heavy emphasis on water hazards makes it a challenging round even for the most experienced golfers.
Meanwhile, the Hills course – which opened near the Lakes in 2008 – will be refurbished from December. Led by architect Dave Sampson, European Golf Design will completely renovate the course, with the front nine from January-August 2025 and the front nine from January-August 2026.
INFINITUM's nine-hole course, the Ruins, will be part of an alternating combination course with the Hills while it is under construction.
