Sidney Crosby Committed to Victory in Pittsburgh

Sidney Crosby believes the Penguins can win again

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Sidney Crosby has agreed to a new two-year contract extension. His new extension has a salary cap hit of $8.7 million.

NHL Rumors: Sidney Crosby Guards Time When It Comes To Contract Extension

Many people wondered if and when Crosby would sign with the Penguins. On July 1, Crosby was eligible to sign an extension as he entered the final year of a 12-year deal with a cap hit of $8.7 million.

As the summer dragged on and he didn't sign, many wondered what this would mean for him in Pittsburgh. Last year, there was speculation that Crosby might want out of Pittsburgh. However, knowing his idols like Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman, Crosby would be a lifever in Pittsburgh.

The question was how long it would take. Considering the team missed the playoffs the past two seasons, Crosby will think about trying to win another Stanley Cup with Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang and another gold medal.

As TSN Scouting director Craig Button noted in a recent Quick Review, Crosby is built to win and is committed to winning with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

NHL Rumors: Sidney Crosby Hopes Deal Will Be Done But Why Are We At This Point?

Craig Button: “The biggest takeaway is that Sidney Crosby has committed to the Pittsburgh Penguins for two years beyond this year. So when you think of Sidney Crosby and his commitment to winning, you think he has the winning streak. That's how you think about playing a game.

He's still one of the best players in the league, and certainly over time, he had conversations with Kyle Dubas and understanding what Kyle's plans are for the team, and then Sidney Crosby has confidence, okay, here we are. That's where we're trying to go, and where they're going is not about, you know, riding and scratching and hitting the playground.

Will Sidney Crosby play again in the Playoffs with the Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby is all about winning. He is about to compete for the Stanley Cup. Are the Penguins close to competing for the Stanley Cup? No, but you should know that Sidney Crosby believes they can compete for the Stanley Cup again. That, to me, is the mark that Sidney Crosby gave to the hockey world, and we know that there has been no slowing down of Sidney Crosby's performances at this stage of his career.”

It will be interesting to see what happens in Pittsburgh because, on paper, the Penguins don't look like a playoff team. But you can't count out a team led by Sidney Crosby.
