Klay Thompson Talks About Mavs' Strength This Season
Seeing Klay Thompson pull on a Dallas jersey will take some getting used to and he has high hopes for the upcoming season with his new team.
Adding Klay, one of the game's best three-point shooters, to their starting lineup is a huge boon for the Mavs.
The combination of Thompson, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic could be the missing piece in Dallas' title chase.
The guard thinks the team can achieve great things.
“I'm excited; it's a new chapter in my career that could be special,” said Thompson Dallas Hoop Journal. “The team was very close last year – they won three times in the tournament – so I know we have the ingredients for success. We just have to stay together and build week by week. I know we can do something special, that's why I come early, just to feel the city and the country. And I'm having fun while I'm doing it.”
Along with getting a feel for the city, Klay embraced the chemistry with his new teammates.
The 34-year-old was part of a voluntary group exercise this summer in LA, where he set up a boat trip to Catalina for everyone.
“It's been a pleasure getting to know the guys,” Thompson said. “I wanted to do something nice for them and take them to one of my favorite places—Catalina Island. We had a great crossing; the water was beautiful that day, the sun was out, and it was amazing. We do a lot of fun things, whether it's diving from a boat, riding jet skis, or just swimming to the beach. It was a great day, and I think those moments as a partner are the ones you treasure for the rest of your life.
“Now it's time, so we don't have much free time to do that, but I will always remember that memory,” he continued. “That's the beauty of being a veteran—trying to show the younger guys another side of life that we don't get to see as much when the season starts. So that was really exciting.”
