Greivis Vasquez: 'LeBron James is the best because he never gets tired of success'
GM: Yes, obviously, the first man Michael Jordan. I grew up watching him, even though I was really young. The reason I love Jordan is that he did it down and out. But he is a different breed. His mind was different. He didn't want to be like other people, not even his peers. If you really understand who MJ was as a player, you can see his competitiveness and how far he was from others. There were good players, and there were great players, but at that time, he was the greatest player.
My second husband, my idol, my hero, and the person who means everything to me Kobe Bryant. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us physically, but his spirit lives on. Mamba Mentality is a way of life. Kobe's style, education, and strength were extraordinary. You are the definition of a winner.
To me, Kobe is more important than Michael in terms of lifestyle. He was a different boy. He spoke three or four different languages and even spoke to me in Spanish a few times. I'm from Caracas, Venezuela, and I play with your hero – money can't buy that. I don't take that lightly.
Then there's LeBron James. Some people may not like him, but you can't take away the fact that he is a winner. Going to the NBA Finals eight times in a row – neither Kobe nor Michael did that. What LeBron is doing now, being the face of the league and promoting basketball around the world, is something no one has ever done before. He also sets an example in court, running his business. In my opinion, he behaves better than Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The fourth guy is Steph Curryand maybe it's because I'm a security guard. What he has done is amazing. I worked with him before he was drafted, I played against him in college and in the NBA, and now his family is like my family. I had Under Armour, too, and I was the second signed back Brandon Jennings. People don't always put that out there, but I'm proud of it. Steph is the definition of winning in every aspect – great personality, great guy, best shooter in the game. He set a tempo in basketball that no one else had ever done. Field shooting – no coach would have liked that before, but Steph made it happen. He changed the game.
Finally, Kevin Durant. People criticize him on Twitter or whatever, but KD is a winner. He's probably in the Top 3 right now, and talent-wise, he might be the best player in the league. You can't take anything away from him. He is a humble boy with a good heart and good work. He likes to win.
KD runs his business outside of court, which is impressive. He knows how to use his platform. The great thing about KD is that he doesn't want to be like other people. He wants to speak his mind, and why? I would do the same. One thing I know about KD is that he has respect. I played with him, I know his family, and I know how hard it was for him growing up.
Now, people expect stars like him to live a certain way, but KD won't fit into anyone's box. You speak your mind, whether you're on Twitter or elsewhere. People don't always like that, but you're human, and you have to respect that. He will not pretend to be someone he is not. He is loyal to his roots and his family, that is why he is a winner.
