NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins, and Philadelphia Flyers

Bruins GM and head coach will talk about extension

Joe Haggerty: Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney said he was in talks to extend the contract with coach Jim Montgomery, but nothing has yet to be announced.

Montgomery said not having a contract before the start of the season will not affect his coaching style. He is believed to be entering the final year of his contract.

NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs Looking to Contend Forward

The future of Alexei Kolosov is up in the air

Jordan Hall: It sounds like Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Alexei Kolosov can't find an NHL spot, he wants to play in the KHL and not the AHL.

Anthony DiMarco: It is believed (as of Wednesday morning) that Kolosov is training with Minsk of the KHL.

  • Hockey News Hub: (reported Wednesday morning) Minsk's No. 1 goalkeeper Andrei Karayev has been placed on the injured list.

Jonathan Bailey of Philadelphia Hockey Now: Kolosov did not show up for Flyers training camp, a move that surprised no one. GM Danny Briere said earlier this week that he hopes Kolosov will change his mind and return to Belarus.

“We hope that he will change his mind and decide to come, but it doesn't look like it right now,” said Briere on Tuesday. “That's right. We have to move on.”

Briere isn't sure if Kolosov just wants to play for the Flyers or if he doesn't want to play in the NHL at all.

“We are surprised at this time, because he does not show that he wants to come,” Briere concluded. “That was an understanding. Last year, when we signed the contract, he asked us to lend him one year so that he could continue to grow for one year, and then he came. And here we are now and you're still saying the same thing.

“It is time for him to stand up and respect the contract.”
