Zach LaVine Turns Over a New Leaf in Chicago: Report
It hasn't always been a happy marriage between Zach LaVine and the Bulls, but it looks like both sides are going to really try to make it work.
At least for now.
The Bulls have long been rumored to want to release LaVine and his massive contract, but other teams are unwilling to take him without additional compensation.
But it looks like LaVine is trying to bury the hatchet and “become a willing participant in team activities, according to team sources”, Athletic's Darnell Mayberry.
Last month, he joined his teammates in Miami for a mini-camp organized by the players, where he enjoyed joining in on the pickup games.
Earlier this month, he again made an effort with the team to build chemistry.
“LaVine reported to Chicago earlier this month, along with most of the Bulls roster,” Mayberry said. “There was a second illegal camp inside the Advocate Centre. LaVine wasn't required to report until next week, when training camp opens Tuesday, but he reiterated his intention to embrace what the Bulls are doing with a new look.”
Along with making a big effort to build relationships with his teammates, the guard is working to mend his broken relationship with coach Billy Donovan.
The Bulls are definitely a team with a lot of talent and LaVine will be one of the few players on the roster who will be in their late 20s and early 30s – along with Nikola Vucevic, Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig.
There's no doubt that Josh Giddey will be the leader of the crime and Mayberry says Zach won't stand in his way, or any of the up-and-comers for that matter.
“…in off-season discussions with Bulls leadership, including coach Billy Donovan, LaVine vowed not to overstep or hinder the development of young players, according to a team source,” said Mayberry.
