Lakers plan for a possible day when LeBron and Bronny share an NBA court
This campaign will be historic in Los Angeles, as LeBron James and Bronny James will be the first father and son to share the court together in NBA history. Head coach JJ Redick admitted that he has already started thinking about how to fit both players as he prepares plans for the upcoming games.
He revealed his joint press conference with vice president of basketball and GM Rob Pelinka. “Obviously we have talked about it as employees and we have received information on what that might look like,” he said on Wednesday.
“But we are not committed to anything,” JJ assured the media. “And obviously, there will be a conversation when we get together with Bronny and LeBron, too. They should also be part of that conversation.”

While LeBron enters his 22nd campaign at the age of 39, the 19-year-old Bronny will begin his first year as the purple and gold team drafted him in the second round with the 55th overall pick, after a short college basketball career.
Even though the season doesn't start until October 22nd, when LA hosts Minnesota, the team manager confirms that he has seen some of Bronny's talents first hand during this week's game. “He transitioned to LeBron, and LeBron took him down, up and under the glass,” Pelinka said. “The names that were changed later were probably more of a challenge than anything else.”
On the other hand, Redick will be entering his first competition leading a squad from the sidelines, after a successful career in the NBA and broadcasting. The rookie coach didn't sound nervous when asked about the added pressure James' bloodline brings to the table. “I don't see it as a challenge.
“It's different from other challenges of coaching a player or coaching a relationship. Bronny, I feel very fortunate that I got to coach him because he is young and hungry, and he has a lot of natural skills that we can mold into a really good NBA player. Besides, he's a sweet kid. He is extremely coachable. You have a good spirit and energy every day. So … it's not something I ever thought was really a challenge,” JJ explained.
The management of the Lakers expects most of their injured players to recover in the next month before the start of the season
Even though players like Game Vincent and sophomore Jalen Hood-Schifino took advantage of the summer to fully recover and report to next week's training camp, there are still some injuries affecting the roster. Vice president Pelinka is still waiting for Jarred Vanderbilt.
Rob reminded the media that the athlete has recently undergone procedures on his feet, as he is injured in his right foot, as well as cleaning the bone in his left heel. “We have high hopes that when the real games start he will be there,” he said of Vanderbilt.
“From now to then, there is about a month left, and there are many steps to go up that should go well, I hope there will be no hiccups,” said the general manager when talking about the team's injuries.
Another player who is not expected to return as soon as Jarred is Christian Wood, who remains sidelined after straining his left knee earlier this month. For now, Pelinka advises coach Redick to focus on who is there. “I think the philosophy that JJ and I share is that we want to build continued excellence for the Lakers,” Rob concluded.
