Could offer sheets be a big thing next season?

The Daily Faceoff: Frank Seravalli if the offer sheets could be more popular next season after the St. Louis Blues were successful in acquiring Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.

“You hear a GM say in the NHL, 'Oh, offer sheets, they don't work out. Check out the list of players they got that ended up changing hands.'

That theory's out the window now, and the other reason is because, I can tell you this from talking to a lot of GMs in the division, their owner watched what happened, and he's been kicking his ass ever since, saying, 'Wait, this team got two young players without giving up a lot, and made another the group became worse. Why weren't we doing more of this?'

So there's been a backlash from the fans over the last 10-plus years saying, oh, the owners don't like to hurt each other. That they, like all people like to play well in the sandbox, I would revise that to say, the reason we don't see other offer sheets is because GMs like to play well in the sandbox.”

How much will Mikko Rantanen's next contract go up?

The Daily Faceoff: Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor when asked what they think Mikko Rantanen's next contract could look like.

Tyler Yaremchuk: “(Mikko Rantanen) AAV will be empty, Frank?”

Seravalli: “It will be very, very expensive. I say Mikko Rantanen's next AAV starts on the 12th.”

Gregor: “I like Rantanen. Big, strong. I would say 12.5 is what he gets.”

Yaremchuk: “The hair under (Nathan) McKinnon. I can see that. I think the key is for him to end up in the top five in AAVs, which I know he'll be regressing when (Leon) Draisaitl's deal starts next year. But right now, Elias Pettersson is fifth at $11.6 (million). I think Rantanen should be more than that. “
