Winnipeg Jets' Latest Camp Cuts Featuring Barlow & Yager – Hockey Writers – Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets announced on Sunday that they have adjusted their training camp roster by five players, bringing the total to 36 players. That number, which includes the injured Ville Heinola and Logan Stanley, has 19 forwards, 13 defensemen, and four goals.
Among those cut were 2023 first-rounders Colby Barlow and Brayden Yager, both recalled from the Owen Sound Attack and Moose Jaw Warriors, respectively. Forwards Parker Ford and Daniel Togersson, and goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis have been assigned to the Jets' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.
Lambert, Salmomonsson Among the Remaining Youth
With the next round of cuts not scheduled for a few more days, rookies Brad Lambert and Elias Salomonsson remain the two young starters. Lambert spent Sunday's practice session with Jaret Anderson-Dolan and rookie Nikita Chibrikov. The 2022 30 overall pick had some moments that looked good for the NHL throughout the preseason, but he appears to be on the outside looking in with two games remaining.
Salomonsson had better looks in the preseason, as he was paired with third baseman Colin Miller. It was the first time the 20-year-old defenseman found himself in an NHL environment during camp.

With Heinola out for a long time and Stanley missing for a long time, maybe the coaching staff is seeing what they have with the rookie at the big time. It looks like Haydn Fleury or Dylan Coghlan are next in line for this spot, but seeing a pairing of Salomonsson and Miller would at least indicate that the Jets are interested in seeing who else can step up.
Manitoba Moose Camp Continues Monday
The Jets will have their AHL organization officially active starting Monday, September 30, as the Moose begin their training sessions on the ice in training camp. The Jets, so far, have offered six players directly to the AHL, with four additional players released from NHL camp tryouts on their AHL contracts.
The Moose began their on-ice practice sessions on Sunday, and are likely to announce their training camp roster either Sunday night or Monday morning before their on-ice session. Once that initial roster is set, expect the next round of NHL camp cuts to join the team later this week. Now halfway through camp, the Jets have two preseason games left, facing the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at home, and will face those same Flames on Friday, Oct. 4 in Calgary.
