Matt Marchese: “What Cam Neely is talking about is, in a nutshell, Jeremy Swayman interviews. Here, here is Cam Neely:
Reporter: “Since you said you were surprised, Cam, can you share any other things here? Be that as it may, what is being asked in terms of dollars or time?
Neely: “Well, I don't want to get into the weeds about what he's asking, but I know that I, I have 64 million reasons why I can't play right now.”
NHL Injuries: Flames, Oilers, Wild, Canadiens, Islanders, Senators, Penguins, Sharks, and Utah
Wow. So that's the big story, of the last day or so. Um, listen, I feel like the Bruins kind of, you know, put themselves in a little bit of a corner here, after the Linus Ullmark trade. What's up with Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins and where is this going?
Friedman: “Okay, so all I can say is, I think after that, the next move is Swayman's. I think he should decide how he feels about it all. And if you know this with the statement last night we are saying, in fact, we will take a few days to reflect on our next move.
I think number one, he has to deal with the shock of what happened, and number two, he has to decide how he wants to go about it.
I think, I think the Bruins' offer yesterday was, before this happened, it was $62 million. I think it was eight times $7.75 (million) and I just believe now what the Bruins are saying, okay, we're $64 (million) our number. We are willing to do eight, and that is as far as we are willing to go.
And I still think, as I reported several times during the summer, that I believe Swayman's first question was McAvoy, which is eight times 9.5. And I still believe that was his first question. But I think you've moved on from that. And I don't think it is there yet, but I still think it wasn't even close to 7.75.
So I think there is still a gap here. So number one, for this to be resolved in the short term, someone is going to have to change their mind, be it the team or the player, and I had no idea from last night, this morning, that they were in that position.
The other thing here is, I believe Swayman thought it was possible after this, maybe asking for a trade. I can't believe it has happened. But I think, to me, that statement makes it clear that you mean it.
Now, I had heard a few weeks ago about the trade rumors. I looked into it, and I was told that the Bruins were telling teams they didn't want that, and they wanted to keep Swayman. And as Neely said yesterday, Swayman had told him face to face that he wanted to be a Bruin and Neely believed that.
So I think where we (Matt and Mike) are at, we're waiting to see how Swayman brings that down. Is anyone going the smart way, and is Swayman asking for a trade?
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs – Matthew Knies and Dennis Hildeby
Like, they were Bruins fans yesterday who were just completely depressed. I don't think it's over. I still think it can be successful. But there's no doubt that yes, it was an emotional day.”
