Mauricio Pochettino who is leading the race to become the next manager of England

The former manager of Chelsea and Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino, is reported to be leading the race to become the next manager of England and has been opened for the job of replacing Gareth Southgate.

Pochettino has long been regarded as one of the best managers in the game, despite enduring a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge last season before the Blues decided to bring in Enzo Maresca this summer.

However, one thinks it won't be long before the Argentinian is back on the job, with iNews saying he is now seen as one of the main options to take over from Southgate, who recently stepped down from England.

Southgate did a great job with the Three Lions during his time in charge, leading the country to the last two Euros, as well as the semi-finals of the World Cup, although the challenge now is surely for the team to finally win the trophy.

Although England have improved greatly since the success that came before Southgate, there is also a feeling that this golden generation with world-class talents such as Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham did not achieve what they could have.

Pochettino could be ready to help the country forward, so it will be interesting to see if the Football Association makes progress on this potential appointment soon.

Lee Carsley is expected to be appointed on an interim basis, according to iNews, while other candidates such as Jurgen Klopp and Eddie Howe have ruled themselves out.
