Vancouver Canucks Sign Nils Hoglander to 3-year extension – Hockey Writers – NHL News

A few days before their season opener on Oct. 9, the Vancouver Canucks inked Nils Hoglander to a three-year extension. The 23-year-old will have $3 million in that deal starting in 2025-2026—he currently makes just $1.1 million against the cap.

En route to the Canucks' first playoff appearance since 2019-20, Hoglander posted career highs in goals (24), points (36), and plus/minus (plus-23) last season. He did this in a season-low 12:06 of ice time, so maybe he should grow in 2024-25 again once his new deal is in place.

Hoglander had a positive impact on the ice for the Canucks last season, so keeping him seems like a smart decision. Considering Vancouver's wing depth in this division, it's possible the young Swede could make it into the top six. It will be a battle, but that could be a way to make this deal a potential steal.

A second-round pick in 2019, it took Hoglander a little while to find his footing, but he seems to have done just that last season. Already a 221 game veteran at BC, does the left fielder have what it takes to produce like a bonafide superstar?
