Maple Leafs' Dennis Hildeby Earns First NHL Win – Hockey Writers – Toronto Maple Leafs
With Joseph Woll reportedly out with an injury, the Toronto Maple Leafs turned to rookie goaltender Dennis Hildeby in a second-half comeback to open their 2024-25 season after dropping their first game 1-0. The Montreal Canadiens.
The Maple Leafs appear to be looking to get Woll back to 100 percent before returning him to the lineup, so that leaves an opening for Hildeby to make his first career NHL start Thursday against the New Jersey Devils on the road.
The Maple Leafs jumped out to a 3-0 lead 14:46 into the game on goals by Max Pacioretty, Bobby McMann and Seven Lorentz, while Hildeby stood tall with a team-leading 22 saves on 24 shots to he won his first job. The NHL is winning.
Hildeby is coming off a season in which he played in 41 games with a 21-11-7 regular season record with the AHL Toronto Marlies. That came with a 2.41 goals against average (GAA) and a .913 save percentage (SV%).
Although Hildeby was not expected to start the season with the Maple Leafs, his first game marked a huge win for the Maple Leafs with a 1-1-0 record over two games and he could be a huge asset to the team going forward.
