How Ping upgraded the Blueprint hardware into the Blueprint S and T
At the World Championship of Technology, Austin Eckroat's win was part of a big week for Ping on the entire world tour. OEM has had successful drivers on the PGA, DP World, LPGA and Champions Tours.
But on this week's GOLF's Fully Equipped, co-hosts Kris McCormack and Wadeh Maroun looked deep into Eckroat's bag for his second PGA Tour title, in his separate set of Ping Blueprint S and Blueprint T irons.
The Blueprint S and T were released earlier this year and are the next generation of the original Blueprint iron that McCormack remembers as a very intimidating looking iron.
“Historically at Gen 1 Blueprint, it was one of the smallest, most intimidating instruments in the True Spec cabinet. And I mean, you had to be elite, a football player, to make this thing work for you,” McCormack said. “I felt happy, but man, it was scary to watch. Especially when you move up to the 3-, 4-, 5-iron. “
Then improved versions, the cavity-back Blueprint S and muscle-back Blueprint T, started appearing in Tour bags and finally went on sale in January, giving top golfers options they couldn't with the original.
“The Blueprint S, the Blueprint T, the footprint has changed a little bit, but it still has that little top line, good face continuity, little offset, and the ability to combine those, it's really cool,” McCormack said.

Additionally, both Blueprint instruments can be combined with Ping's popular i230 instruments to increase the number of possible combinations and fit as many players as possible, including McCormack.
“If I had to go out now, millions of dollars on the line, what instruments do I put in the bag? I was talking about the i230 and the Blueprint S, the Blueprint T combo is also the i230,” he said. “So I mean, you have the ability to put together a set that can contain three instruments, all the same lofts, and a very similar design for who is targeted at that demographic. I have beaten all three. I'm definitely over that I230 guy and the Blueprint S at the end of the bag.”
