Big Third Period Boosts Hurricanes to 4-1 Win Over the Flyers – Hockey Writers – Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes started their three game road trip with a big win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night with a score of 4-1. Still without Seth Jarvis, who did not go with the team, the Canes had no problem scoring in the country.

Despite an impressive save from Ivan Fedotov, the Flyers, outscored by Carolina 43-12, couldn't muster enough on the offensive side of the puck to keep things interesting. With the win, Carolina leapfrogged Washington for first place in the Metropolitan Division.

First time
Before the fans sat down in their seats with popcorn, Jalen Chatfield scored just 30 seconds into the contest to give the Hurricanes an early lead. This marks Carolina's fastest goal of the season with 26th the time a franchise has scored in the first 30 seconds of a game since possession.

Continuing the theme of early goals, Sebastian Aho scored his fifth goal of the season 1:03 into the third period. The goal ended up being the game-winner that made Aho pass Ron Francis last time in franchise history in that category with 58.
Just five minutes later, Jordan Staal redirected a shot from Dmitry Orlov that didn't come off the ice. The captain's third goal of the season made it 3-1 in Carolina and gave the Hurricanes the breathing space they deserved.
Jack Roslovic joined the team 55 seconds later. Aho picked out Poehling in midfield to create another chance. He had a shot saved and Roslovic put the puck in with quick mitts for his 10th goal of the season and a 4-1 Hurricanes lead.
Fedotov was the only reason this game was as close as it was. He made 33 saves on 37 shots. Carolina had 18 high scoring chances to score five goals in Philadelphia. The Hurricanes held the Flyers to just eight shots on goal over the last two periods.
The Hurricanes have a quick turnaround and face the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night at 7 pm at “The Rock”. The Flyers have a few days to settle in and regroup before hosting Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks in a Saturday afternoon game at 1 p.m.
