Sharks double up on Kraken with 4-2 win – Hockey Writers – San Jose Sharks
After Friday's (Nov. 29) opener in San Jose, where the Sharks defeated the Seattle Kraken 8-5, the Pacific Division rivals met again on Saturday (Nov. 30), this time in Seattle. Right now the Kraken are almost done playing the Sharks, although the latter are having the time of their lives, as San Jose cruised to a 4-2 win. The two-day sweep is complete.
Shark Feast on Kraken Errors
Although this latest tournament was not as high-flying as its predecessor, the recipe for success for coach Ryan Warsofsky's team was the same: create turnovers, put pressure on the opposition, and score quickly.

It was like that on Saturday. Mario Ferraro was the only one to score in the first 20 minutes. The defender turned on the light at 16:54. He made good on passes from Timothy Liljegren and Mikael Granlund that closed the Seattle zone before settling on his stick near the slot to shoot through traffic.
Luke Kunin scored twice for the visitors early in the second half after playing time in the penalty box. The Sharks came out of the defensive zone after a Seattle miscue, Ty Dellandrea left the disc to Kunin with a soft back pass. Kunin's wrist shot went past Joey Daccord.
Cody Cedi made it 3-0 at 8:59 of the second with a puck that bounced off the back of the Kraken net. With Seattle's goalkeeper overwhelmed and unable to recover, Ceci blasted her shot to the netminder's right. Credit to Jake Walman for making the athletic and skill game at the blue line to keep the puck alive for his team.
Sharks smell blood and want more. Seattle's inability to keep the puck in San Jose's zone again sent Granlund running from the left for a two-on-one. He fed Will Smith, who sent the puck home for 4-0 at 9:45.
Kraken Tries to Answer but Sinks
The hosts tried to make a game out of it. Jaden Schwartz benefited from a lucky bounce off the board that had the puck on his stick. He deftly snuck it top shelf past Mackenzie Blackwood at 10:17 in the middle frame to cut the deficit to 4-1.
In the third period, Jared McCann gave the home fans something to applaud at 6:27. He received a pass from Ryker Evans, got to the top of the left faceoff circle and fired a shot over Blackwood's shoulder. Seattle frustrated and huffed late to inch closer to their rivals, but the Sharks would have none of it.
In contrast to Friday's game, it could be said that the goalkeeper was the hero of the match. Blackwood was the star, making 36 saves in the victory.
The Sharks travel to Washington to face the Capitals on Tuesday (Dec. 3). The Kraken is also facing east. They will be in Carolina to face the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
