Golden Knights Blank Oilers 1-0 – Hockey Writers – Vegas Golden Knights

In the main division championship, the Vegas Golden Knights (16-7-3) defeated the Edmonton Oilers (13-10-2) 1-0 on Tuesday night (Dec. 3). This was a defensive battle that gave off playoff vibes, with exceptional scoring. Here's your quick game summary:

Recap of the game

The first half featured tight checks and low-key action, resulting in the Golden Knights holding a narrow 5-3 advantage. However, despite this low-key event hockey, Vegas opened the scoring 10:47 into the opening period with a goal by Ivan Barbashev. Edmonton had Vegas tied up in its own zone, but Leon Draisaitl turned the puck over at the blue line leading to a 2-on-1 the other way. Barbashev tried to feed the puck to a sliding Evan Bouchard, but it was blocked, so he got his own rebound and tricked Stuart Skinner for his 13th goal of the season. This ended up being the only goal in the game.

The middle frame was a lot of fun. There was some back-and-forth action that saw some good scoring. Skinner made a great glove save on Tomas Hertl's stick, and Adin Hill had a great save to keep Edmonton on the board. Therefore, the Golden Knights maintained a one-goal lead going into the final period.

The Oilers tried to pull back the tying goal in the third period, but it was off target. Hill robbed a tight Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with less than two minutes left to secure the win. Edmonton outscored Vegas 16-2 in the final period.

Skinner wasn't busy in the Oilers' net, stopping 15 of 16 shots for a .938 save percentage (SV%). Hill, on the other hand, was spectacular this time around, stopping all 28 shots he faced.

It's a short change for the Golden Knights as they are in Anaheim to face the Ducks on Wednesday night (Dec. 4) for the second half of a back-to-back. Meanwhile, the Oilers return home with a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night (Dec. 5). The two rivals don't have to wait long for their next meeting as Vegas is in Edmonton to meet on Dec. 14.
