NHL Rumors: Stars, Oilers, Rangers – Hockey Writers – NHL Rumors
In today's NHL rumor game, will the Dallas Stars go big game hunting to find Tyler Seguin's replacement? Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers provided an update on Evander Kane's injury status. Finally, The Athletic's Arthur Staple examines a few trade targets for the New York Rangers as he continues to explore the market.
Dallas Stars Look For Big Moves After Seguin Injury
With Tyler Seguin's injury creating an opening, the Dallas Stars plan to be aggressive in the trade market. According to Jeff Marek of the Daily Faceoff, GM Jim Nill is targeting big-ticket players up front and outside of safety, with the belief that this is the year for a tough Cup run. The team's ownership, led by Tom Gaglardi, is fully aligned in this push.
Marek warned that big moves could come at a cost, which is probably why the Stars are looking at internals first. If Nill wants to land a big fish, the Stars will likely need to part ways with younger prospects like Logan Stankoven, Mavrik Bourque, and/or Lian Bichsel.
Marek also points out that any big move could come after the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament where Jake Oettinger's life is most important. If this goalkeeper is injured, it will change what the Stars do by trading.
Evander Kane At Least A Month Gone
Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch gave an active update on forward Evander Kane's recovery at a press conference on Tuesday. The news was far from positive but it gives some sort of idea to fans who want to know where Kane is nearing a return. Knoblauch confirmed that Kane will not be back for at least a month.

“He has a schedule where he comes on certain days to receive treatment, whether we are on the road or at home,” explained Knoblauch. “He comes several times a week and gets that treatment.” The head coach did not specify whether Kane's tenure would extend beyond the month, leaving questions about the Oilers' plans and trade deadline plans.
The Oilers are starting to roll and move up in the Pacific Division. If and when Kane can return, it begs the question of what happens to players like Jeff Skinner, Vasily Podkolzin, and Kasperi Kapanen.
The Rangers' potential trade targets for the future
Arthur Staple of The Athletic is excited about a post about potential trade targets for the New York Rangers. He acknowledged that the agreements he is proposing are not imminent, and some may take a long time, but he saw them as possible.
He began by writing:
As several league officials have told me in interviews since the Rangers declared themselves open for business, no one is blowing up Drury's call for Chris Kreider or Mika Zibanejad. “Teams want (Will) Cuylle, they want (Victor) Mancini, they want (Gabe) Perreault,” said one Western Conference manager.

Among the names he mentioned, Staple noted Thomas Chabot, Ivan Provorov, and Jonas Brodin on defense. He then mentioned Trent Frederic, JT Miller, Alex Tuch, Joel Farabee, Trevor Zegras, Brady Tkachuk, and Dylan Cozens. Staple seemed to focus on teams that looked like they were still outside the playoff field.
It is important to note that in some of these cases, teams have already shut down trade rumors. The Canucks say they are not moving Miller and the Senators have noted that they don't even want to discuss a Brady Tkachuk trade. Zegras is also badly damaged, so trading there seems highly unlikely.
