Seattle Kraken's Matty Beniers to play in his 200th NHL game – Hockey Writers – Seattle Kraken

In today's Seattle Kraken vs. Ottawa Senators game, one player will play in a historic game. Matty Beniers will not only play in his 200th NHL game, but also his 200th with the Kraken.

Beniers made history with the Kraken, becoming the franchise's first NHL draft pick in the 2021 Draft. He was selected second overall and played a total of ten games in the Kraken's first season, scoring three goals and earning six assists for a total of nine points. Scoring almost every game he played in the 2021-22 season, he showcased his incredible talent.

His skills continued to be showcased throughout the following season. In the 2022-23 season, he played a total of 80 matches. Beniers missed all 82 games of the season after being hit with an injury. More importantly, this injury prevented him from participating in the All-Star Game. Despite missing out on a great opportunity, Beniers had an incredible first full season in the NHL. He scored 24 goals and had 33 assists, for a total of 57 points. He was able to help the Kraken also make their first playoff appearance. He scored three goals and had four assists in 14 playoff games. He had a strong start to his first season.

Come the 2023-24 season, the second decline has also begun. He scored 37 points all season. He played 77 games, scored 15 goals and had 22 assists. Although this was 20 points less than what he achieved last season, the team and fans had high expectations after his impressive performance in 2022-2023.

Between last season and this season, Beniers signed a seven-year contract with the Kraken, with an average annual value of $7.14 million (AAV).

So far this season, he is trying to use his contract. In the 32 games he has played, he has scored four goals and scored 13, 17 points in total. For such a large contract, these numbers seem small. Beniers is currently tied for third place with Ryker Evans assisting them. Hopefully, he can score some big goals tonight to celebrate his milestone game.

Congratulations to Beniers on playing in his 200th NHL game!
