NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabers, and Trade Talk Picking Up

The Buffalo Sabers may have some goals going into the offseason

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: There was speculation last season that the Buffalo Sabers were pursuing Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas and that the deal may not have gone through. A source recently said that Necas has no offer for the Sabers to consider, and that the most likely destinations are Columbus or Winnipeg.

he wonders if the Sabers were talking to the Calgary Flames about Andrew Mangiapane before he was traded to Washington, or the Winnipeg Jets about Nikolaj Ehlers.

Sources have been saying the Sabers may be after Flames forward Yegor Sharangovich's five-year, $5.75 million extension next season.

Trade negotiations are on the rise

Marco D'Amico of RG.org: Teams are wondering and looking at the Buffalo Sabers and New York Rangers coming off the suspended holiday list again before the trade deadline.

“That being said, we probably all look like a bunch of bloody sharks in the water to Chris and Kevyn,” a rival NHL official said in the story. “We're all watching them and waiting to see what happens here before the Holiday deadline and the trade deadline.”

Some of the main things could be flexible to go when the deadline goes up on December 28. Deals are being set.

“If you tell me in September, I will hear about other players that I hear about at Christmas or New Year, I can say no,” said the source. “There are a lot of teams that, for whatever reason, weren't where they or many of us expected them to be, and that creates a strong market, I think – at least in terms of the discussions so far.”
