Sharks Losing Streak Hits Seven Games As Flames Win 3-1 – Hockey Writers –
The Calgary Flames arrived in San Jose, California hoping to defeat the struggling San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center. Between the pipes tonight, it was a matchup between Dustin Wolf of the Flames and Yaroslav Askarov of the Sharks. In the battle between two Pacific Division teams, the Flames managed to win 3-1.
Recap of the game
The Flames got off to a flying start in the first half with a goal by Jonathan Huberdeau assisted by Nazem Kadri and Mackenzie Weegar four minutes into the frame. The Flames took a 1-0 lead into the second period when Macklin Celebrini responded just three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 with a goal assisted by Tyler Toffoli and Alex Wennberg.
The Flames responded by taking a 2-1 lead with a goal by Mikael Backlund assisted by Kadri and Rasmus Andersson. That would stand as the game-winning goal as they would score just one more goal late in the third period on an empty netter from Jonathan Huberdeau off Kadri and Wolf.
The Flames return to action on Sunday (Dec. 29) against the Vegas Golden Knights and the Sharks return to action on Tuesday (Dec. 31) against the Philadelphia Flyers.
