Subriel Matias Reveals Top 10 Controversial Fighters List Ahead of Title Defense
Subriel Matias, the IBF light welterweight champion, lists his top 10 fighters in the 140-lb division, surprisingly challenging Liam Paro for the top spot. Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) defends against Paro (24-0, 15 KOs) this Saturday night, June 15, live on DAZN at Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu in Manati, Puerto Rico.
Haney Called “Chicken”
Devin Haney, the WBC 140-lb champion, is at the bottom of Matias' list at #5, calling him “chicken” because of his fighting style and his risk-taking approach.
Haney's recent loss to Ryan Garcia is the obvious reason he's ranked at the bottom of Matias' top 10 list, but he's lucky to be ranked that high. His loss to Ryan on April 20 was devastating.

Prograis Up, Despite Recent Losses
Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) has not fought since losing his WBC light welterweight title to Haney last December, and it is doubtful he will bounce back from that defeat.
The 35-year-old Prograis looked slow, old, and the size of Haney in that twelve-round unanimous decision loss at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
Of course, Haney's rehydrated weight of 165 lbs puts Prograis in an unbeatable position due to his opponent's sheer size.
“Haney, the chicken is 6 years old, he doesn't hurt,” said Subriel Matias speaking to Matchroom Boxing, estimating his best fighters at 140.
Rolly Romero's Amazing Placement
“Look, Rolly Romero. He shouldn't be here. He belongs to McDonald's. Catterall, let's put him at 4 so he doesn't get upset. He will be our next victim, God willing.”
Matias putting Rolly Romero over Liam Paro is an interesting ranking because it doesn't make a lot of sense.
Former WBA light welterweight champion Rolly (15-2, 13 KOs) looked awful in an eighth-round submission loss to Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz on March 30 in Las Vegas.
Even before that loss, Rolly was already working hard on his fight with 40-year-old Ismael Barroso in Las Vegas last year in May 2023.
That was the fight where the referee, Tony Weeks, suddenly stepped in and stopped the contest in the ninth round, giving Rolly a knockout victory after a barrage of shots, many punches in the air.
“See Prograis at #1. That's a coward. You are afraid of me, p****y,” said Matias.
