We've seen a few great examples of players trying to clear the incredibly difficult greens at Pinehurst No 2, but few have turned out like this Sepp Straka ace.

Coming off the Par 3 No 9 at Pinehurst No 2, Straka made good contact and the ball landed on the green, bouncing a few times before rolling into the cup.

Straka was overwhelmed by the moment with a large stand full of fans cheering him on as he went up to get his ball out of the hole.

And as they say in reviews, 'you never know when it will be your turn.'

Get out there and find those hole-in-ones.

Straka's effort is the third ace at No 9 at the US Open at Pinehurst No 2, as the Austrian joins Peter Jacobsen (2005, Round 3) and Zach Johnson (2014, Round 4) in holding the distinction.

Early in the second round, Straka's second shot on the par-4 third hole hit the flagstick and bounced back into the greenside bunker, and he finished with a triple-bogey 7.

That was a bad break at the wrong time, which dropped him to 3 over for the tournament (he opened with a ven-par 70 on Thursday).

In that context, his ace was certainly a fitting return from the golf gods; following a triple bogey, he played his next five holes in 1-over before recording a hole-in-one at the turn.

The breakthrough marks Straka's fourth US Open appearance after finishing T28 in his debut in 2019 but missing the cut two years ago.

During Straka's ace on Friday morning, just before the turn, the cut appeared to be 3-over, with 80 players at 3-over or better.

The top 60 players and ties will make the 36-hole cut at Pinehurst No 2 and enter the weekend chasing Major glory.
