First things first, Gervonta Davis has been in boxing's biggest game. His knockout victory over Ryan Garcia last year was widely watched and no doubt brought in a mint. There was no denying the obvious: Davis-Garcia was a full-on fight. The thing is, there are some very high profile opponents that Davis will be up against, many if not more skilled and decorated. Vasyl Lomachenko is the latest name to be raised as a potential opponent for Davis. A fight between the high profile, highly decorated Lomachenko and the explosive and undefeated Davis will no doubt draw a lot of attention.
There's also a certain Shakur Stevenson out there who could pose a serious challenge to Davis, too. Indeed, there are more than a few marquee names that the undefeated Davis will face in the near future. The question is, will you? Still, fans wonder if Davis is particularly interested in fighting the best competition available. Davis, however, has a chance to prove these naysayers wrong. First though, the Baltimore native must get past fellow undefeated Frank Martin this weekend in Las Vegas.
The reality is that Davis enters Saturday's fight at the MGM Grand as a significant favorite. The man is powerful – the type of popular works based on it. Davis also applies pressure admirably and remains cool under fire while in the ring. Still, Martin didn't get to this point in his career by being a slug. Indeed, there are suggestions of a dramatic upset that could be in the air this weekend. However, as long as Davis wins as expected, fans and pundits will probably start calling for him to face one of the biggest names available next. Not that Davis is guaranteed to listen.
Because Davis is undoubtedly the man to the drummer's beat. He's not particularly a bombshell by nature, so he won't be pulling out a Tyson Fury routine to boost his profile. History of questionable antics aside, Davis has established himself largely by taking out opponent after opponent. Hopefully Davis will test his mettle against another popular fighter in the near future. The public, and perhaps Davis himself, may show gratitude. And, yet, there is Frank Martin for Davis to pass first. It's not like Davis fighting with tomato cans after all.
