Bob arum on tank davis-vasyl lomachenko matchup: “both fighters want to fight.”

Written by: Sean Crose

At 92 years old, Bob Arum is still going strong. Talking to Fight the Hype In a video posted on Wednesday, the legendary promoter opened up about his Vasyl Lomachenko fight against PBC fighter Gervonta Davis in the near future. “We know both of these fighters want the fight,” Arum said, “so if that happens, the suits sit down and try to work out the economic conditions and get it together, and I hope they do that again.” that the war will happen, but until it is signed, you don't know.”

When asked if networking could spoil potential fights, Arum was remarkably defensive. “Networks work together,” he said. “You cannot blame the networks if the war is not fought. It's those people who are concerned with the fighters who don't have the truth, but I don't think it should be like that (with Lomachenko and Davis). I think the negotiations will go very well between the parties.”

Arum was also asked about the belief of some (perhaps many) that the Lomachenko-Davis fight has passed its “sell-by date.” Suffice it to say, the veteran of the game clearly wasn't interested in what could have happened. “This is a do-it-yourself time,” he said, “and they're both coming off big wins, so it's all good. At some point, would fighting mean more? I don't know. Maybe, but you can't look back on that. I mean, at this point we're in the works for both guys and it's a very exciting, exciting fight.”

While it's true that Lomachenko no longer looks as sharp as he did in his heyday, there's no denying that the Ukrainian striker is still a serious threat to Davis, who also seems to be coming into his own. In other words, Lomachecnko could pull off an upset if the two men end up brawling in the ring. The bottom line is that the Davis-Lomachenko rematch will remain something to behold.

As for Arum, the man has been at the top of the fight game for years. Successful and controversial, he has continued to prove that he can work well within the system, even in his twenties. While the Davis-Lomachenko matchup wouldn't strike anyone as a timeless matchup, it will undoubtedly be viewed as a great matchup, proving that Arum still has what it takes to make big fights happen.
