Tyler Denny and Felix Cash make similar predictions for the upcoming European title fight

European middleweight champion Tyler Denny and Felix Cash both predicted that they will win on Saturday night (June 22).

The two meet in the main Matchroom event at Resorts World Arena, Birmingham which is Denny's first chance to defend the title he won against Matteo Signani last week.

Cash, on the other hand, returns to the ring 18 months since his last fight – an eight-round victory against Celso Neves on the Josh Warrington-Luis Alberto Lopez undercard. In his absence, Denny, 18-2-3 (1 KO), has gone from strength to strength in regular fights on Sky Sports defeating Bradley Rea, Brad Pauls, Macaulay McGowan and Signani, respectively.

“He's going to be crushed on Saturday,” Denny said at today's final press conference.

“I feel bad for him but this is the game we are in. He has to do something because after that. [beating Denzel] Bentley should have won world titles now.”

Cash interrupted, however, saying, “I'm going to get you out of the way and I'm going to get right back into the mix.”

“He won't,” Denny replied. “Ignore him. He starts to get excited. You think to measure, you struggle, you are happy.”

The undefeated player went on to ask Denny if he hoped Cash would not be able to make weight (160lbs). That conversation eventually panned out but Denny believes he can secure his second straight win inside the distance, with only one to his name so far.

“He's a good fighter,” Denny said of Cash.

“We have been in front but I respect him. It's good to fight all around. You can't cheat this game, boxing will get you. No matter what he's been doing in the past how many months and years I've been in the gym grinding. And it will show. Break him up and get him out of there. And anyway. “

Rather than get his feet wet again in a warm-up fight looking for something important, Cash, 16-0 (10 KOs) chose to go straight in with the man in favor of momentum. This decision speaks volumes for the confidence of Cash and new coach Adam Booth.

“I'm looking forward to Saturday night and getting my hands on this European title and making up for lost time,” said Cash.

“I definitely think I'm going to get him out of there. He'll go out and watch the first few rounds, go to work and I don't think it's going to go very far.”

While the 160lbs division is one that has featured great fights over the years there is no star power in 2024. Champions Janibek Alimkhanuly, Carlos Adames and Erislandy Lara are not household names commanding big paydays. The winner on Saturday will come close to shooting one of them and history tells us that winning the European title can lead to a chance at the world title.

“That's what we want,” said Cash, fighting for one of the belts. “I want to be in big fights and I'm sure I'll go after this one.”
