Keyshawn Davis Is Ready To Tank Davis, Says Coach Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre

Coach Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre says his star Keyshawn Davis believes he can beat star Gervonta 'Tank' Davis right now.

BoMac says that the undefeated, top-ranked Keyshawn (10-0-1, 7 KOs) has called out Tank Davis, but he is not mentioned because he only has 10 fights under his belt as a champion.

The Need for Stronger Competition

The real reason fans aren't talking about Keyshawn is the low-level opposition he's been fighting and how he looked nothing when his promoters at Top Rank promoted him against contender Nahir Albright.

What Keyshawn needs to fight these killers to put him on the radar of Tank Davis and Vasily Lomachenko at 135:

  • Andy Cruz
  • William Zepeda
  • Raymond Muratalla
  • Edwin De Los Santos
  • Floyd Schofield

Keyshawn Davis, 2020 US Olympic silver medalist, is ranked #3 by the IBF, WBC, and WBO at lightweight and is close to challenging Tank Davis for his WBA title, as long as he wants to that war.

If Top Rank wants to speed up the process, they can throw in Keyshawn and Andy Cruz, Zepeda, Muratalla, or De Los Santos to put him in the forefront of the boxing public's mind.

Unfortunately, those guys might be too good for Keyshawn, and if so, Top Rank can cutting foodthrew Davis over the fish, and continued.

They can't do that by comparing Keyshawn to old veterans like Jose Pedraza and obscure fighters that even hardcore fans have never heard of, which is what Top Rank is doing now.

Provable Power

Tank Davis can't be forced to face anyone, and even if Keyshawn moves up to the mandatory WBA spot, that doesn't guarantee him a chance to fight the Baltimore native unless he and his management want to.

“I have a 135-pounder who can make noise, and that's where my concern is with Keyshawn Davis,” said trainer Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre talking to Sean Zittel about his fight, champion Keyshawn Davis.

BoMac needs to talk to Top Rank to insist that they start matching Keyshawn against better opposition. He will not be able to take their back route to take the world title at 135.

There are no weak lightweight champions for Keyshawn to hold the belt from, as happened when George Kamabosos Jr. holding three belts.

“They don't talk about it because he only has to fight ten fights, but the world knows he's there. He just called him. So, I think he has it in his mind that he can beat him,” said BoMac about Keyshawn believing that he can beat Gervonta 'Tank' Davis.

Die-hard boxing fans know that Keyshawn is ranked high, but not casual fans, who don't know who he is, and that may remain the case if Top Rank continues to match him against the likes of Jose Pedraza and veteran Miguel Madueño.

“I will tell you this: As long as he is there [Keyshawn] he follows the game plan, he can win any battle there is. You have to think carefully and adapt to the style that is there. That's what makes a good fighter, he adapts to situations,” said BoMac.

Keyshawn fights next month against veteran Miguel Madueño on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson vs. Artem Harutyunyan on July 6 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The 25-year-old Keyshawn is still relatively unknown in the fight scene despite his Olympic pedigree and the popularity that has flowed into his career with Top Rank. At this point, it is debatable whether or not Keyshawn will come out.

Comparison with Terence Crawford

Although some see him as a young Terence Crawford, he has never shown the aggressiveness to attack opponents the way the Nebraska native did earlier in his career.

The timid quality of Keyshawn, even for weak shooters like Jose Pedraza, makes it hard to see him becoming the next Crawford. Keyshawn does not like to be spanked and will do anything to avoid it.

Furthermore, Keyshawn's lack of desire to avenge his multiple defeats to Cuban Andy Cruz makes him a poor man to step into Crawford's shoes.
