Iordanescu hails Belgium as 'a complete team' after defeat in Cologne

Belgium are a “complete team” according to Romanian manager Edward Iordanescu.

The Red Devils finally got the points on the board in Group E at Euro 2024, beating their rivals 2-0 in Cologne on Saturday night.

It was a great response from Kevin De Bruyne and Co, who lost their first game against Slovakia.

Youri Tielemans got off to a good start, scoring after just a minute.

It was an open game after that, but Belgium scored a brilliant second-half strike from their captain.

He raced after the goal kick and easily closed the keeper to make it two for Belgium.

It was a tough fight from Romania, but still not enough to win the match according to their head coach.

Speaking in his post-match interview, he said: “They are a team with high quality: they have speed, they have explosiveness, they have power.

“They are a complete team. They are favorites to win the title.

“We did not give up, we fought hard. In the second half we were better.

“Fortunately, we could get a point. We found opportunities to measure.

“In terms of challenges, this was a very high level.

“We started the tournament well, now let's see how we face the difficulties. We need unity and solidarity.

“We will analyze it a lot with the team. We had a lot of duels in this game, unlike the first game.

“We got opportunities. We will always try and get better and we will try to improve the third game. I have full confidence in our team.”

Romania will go into their final match against Slovakia knowing that a win will see them through to the knockout stages.

All three teams in Group E sit on three points, but Iordanescu is confident his team has what it takes to get the job done.

He added: “We will do everything we can to respond [against Slovakia].

“Every player who came off the bench today was an attacking player but it was not enough.

“We should have tried not to let many go but this team has been undefeated for a long time.

“We had to fight for every ball. We lost a few duels but we have the quality to come out of this one. “
