England gave a big boost before the Slovenia game

Luke Shaw has returned to full training in England one day before they face Slovenia in their final Euro 2024 group game.

The Three Lions need a win on Tuesday to consolidate their place as they have won Group C having taken four points from the first two games.

England's Euro 2024 performances so far have been heavily criticized, as has head coach Gareth Southgate's preparation for the tournament.

After a poor 1-1 draw with Denmark last Thursday, Southgate's tactics and decision to call up Shaw, who has not played since February due to injury, were questioned. However, Southgate's plan to bring Shaw back for England's third game at Euro 2024 appears to be on track after he made his long-awaited return to training on Monday.

There had been further concern over Shaw's condition after continuing to train alone after the Denmark defeat, but he is now in contention to play again.

In Shaw's place, Kieran Trippier has been selected at left-back for England, although he is naturally right-footed and did not offer much width when attacking. Trippier also nursed a calf injury during the clash with Denmark, although he joined Shaw in full training on Monday.

Shaw is the only left-back in Southgate's final 26-man squad. Teammate Jarrad Branthwaite has been left out of the provisional list, although he is a full-back. Ben Chilwell, who has played 21 games for England, was not called up following a poor season at club level with Chelsea.

England's other left-back options are Joe Gomez and Ezri Konsa, but they are naturally right-sided centre-backs.

Shaw's last minutes of competitive football came against Manchester United in their 2-1 win at Luton Town in February. He played the first half of their final victory at Kenilworth Road before again suffering a hamstring problem and having to be taken off.
