Here are three things we'll be looking at around the world of baseball all day today:
1. Contreras will return:
The Cardinals are set to work Wilson Contreras on the injured list today, manager Oli Marmol told reporters yesterday (link via MLB.com's John Denton). The last step before Contreras is officially active is a medical when he joins the club in Atlanta today. The news marks a surprisingly quick return for Contreras, who was expected to miss 10 weeks after breaking his arm when hit by a swing from the Mets DH. JD Martinez.
Contreras will now return nearly a month ahead of schedule, and it couldn't come at a better time for the Cardinals. Club of St. Louis returned to postseason contention in Contreras' absence and will now plug the same bat that hit .280/.398/.551 in its first 31 games back into the lineup. Contreras' return also coincides with recent minor injuries Ivan Herrera, who has been filling in behind the plate but is now on the shelf with a back injury. That leaves the Cardinals with the third team to hold the reins Pedro Pages again Nick Raposo in recent days.
2. The Orioles' schedule goes without:
The Orioles will miss the outfielder Heston Kjerstad in the big leagues today, which will be his third game against Baltimore. The Guardians faced adversity yesterday when the slugger David Fry was pulled after the second inning due to elbow inflammation, as noted by Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Meisel added that Fry is currently considered day-to-day by the team. MLB.com's Injury Tracker adds that Fry would undergo further evaluation after yesterday's game and that the Rangers hope to know more about his condition today.
Much of Bagadisi's success on offense can be attributed to Fry, who slashed an otherworldly .312/.429/.526 (172 wRC+) while splitting time between catcher, DH, first base, left field, right field and even third. from Cleveland.
