Everton are keen to enter the race to sign the “unique” record-breaking wonderkid

With the transfer window now in full swing, Everton will be in the race for top-class youngsters with interest from other Premier League sides.

Everton acted quickly in the summer transfer window

After avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season, the Toffees are in the process of strengthening Sean Dyche's squad and ensuring that next season they will remain prominent in the relegation zone.

One name floating around as a possible target for the Toffees is Benfica's Florentino Luis. The Portuguese midfielder is also interested in Leicester City as the player's current club have already rejected a £25million bid from an unnamed English club.

Everton will also be up against Southampton's new arrival in the Premier League from Celtic Matt O'Riley. The 23-year-old has been wanted by the Saints for some time, however a recent report has suggested that Everton are one of the Premier League clubs who have held talks with the Scottish champions over the Dane.

Both of these players are seen as potential replacements for Amadou Onana, who has recently been linked with Manchester United.

While part of the Goodison Park recruits are eyeing established stars, it seems others at the club are eyeing the next generation of talent as the Toffees take on Europe's wonderkid.

The Toffees are set to compete for Ireland's youth sensation

As first reported by TeamTalk, Everton are battling to sign Irish striker Mason Melia. The company says the Toffees will face Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion to sign the youngster.

The 16-year-old is currently playing senior football for St Patrick's in the League of Ireland Premier Division, where Melia has three goals to his name in 23 games in Ireland's top flight.

Melia made his debut for Ireland aged just 15, becoming St Patrick's youngest ever player in the league's history. Speaking after the teenager's debut, former St Patrick's interim manager Jon Daly praised the striker: “He was different in Sean (O'Connor's) U-19 team.

“If you think 'I need a goal', I saw him score a lot of goals in the U-19s, I saw him score against Wexford in the Leinster Senior Cup. I know he can finish and I know his movement is good.”

Although Melia is unknown in senior football, it will be a while before we see him running in the Premier League. Due to new player registration rules after Brexit, the striker cannot move to the UK until he turns 18.

Despite this, Everton will still be able to agree a deal for Melia this summer with the club agreeing to the player's move to Merseyside as soon as he turns 18.
