Majestic Maguire leads the way at Centurion – Golf News

It was another impressive day for the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – London, as Ireland's Leona Maguire fired a 7-under-par 66 at the Centurion Club to take the sole lead.

World No.8, and favorite this week, Charley Hull, was forced to withdraw after playing only six holes, early in the morning. The shoulder injury was being managed by a physiotherapist as it was too much for Hull to carry on, following a week of illness.

But there was no false start from Maguire, who was flawless as he dominated the top of the leaderboard. With four birdies on her front nine, three on her back nine and an impressive up-and-down to reach 18, Maguire pulled away from Austria's Sarah Schober, holding a one-over lead.

Maguire's brilliance also propelled his team to the top of the Team leaderboard, tied at the top with Team Hall and Team Itturioz at 14-under-par, heading into the second and final day of the team tournament.

The world number 32, who will represent the Republic of Ireland at the Summer Olympics in Paris, was full of praise for her team, which includes Liz Young and Marta Sanz Barrio.

“We were all making a few birdies out there which really helped,” Maguire said. “We have a good atmosphere in the team which made it easier outside.”

Nuria Iturrioz, who sits T3 on the individual leaderboard, birdied four of her front nine to help her team jump into first place early, as she started early.

“We are happy,” said the Spaniard, who was enjoying the feeling of the team. “We played really well and we are a really good team, we have good vibes, and we will continue tomorrow.”

Sarah Schober, who missed the cut at last week's VP Bank Swiss Open, carded seven birdies in her six qualifying rounds, and sits just behind the overnight lead.

“I am very happy that today, everything clicked together. I want to keep doing what I'm doing. There are still two days to go so I am very relaxed and I want to enjoy it out there with the ladies.”
