Joao Felix missed a crucial penalty for Portugal against France

Joao Felix missed out on a crucial place when Portugal lost 5-3 to France on penalties in the quarter finals of Euro 2024.

In a game that was evenly matched neither team found success in 90 minutes or extra time and the game was decided by penalties.

Portugal won on penalties against Slovenia in the previous round, and will fancy their chances again, especially with one of France's best penalty takers, Kylian Mbappe, ruled out.

The level of penalties in the shootout was very commendable for Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Nuno Mendes who all scored for Portugal in their matches.

With the shoot-outs tied at 2-2, Felix took the lead, but his shot hit the post leaving Portugal behind.

Portugal needed the French players to buckle under pressure or Diogo Costa to repeat his heroics against Slovenia.

Unfortunately it was not to be as Bradley Barcola and Theo Hernandez both scored, to set up a semi-final against Spain.
