West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui is unhappy with the squad he inherited

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly unhappy with the current defensive system he inherited from David Moyes.

According to Sky Sports and talkSPORT reporter Bardell, the Spanish manager is keen to bring back some assurances.

Julen Lopetegui is unhappy with West Ham's centre-back options

West Ham's pursuit of Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo has hit a snag, with recent reports suggesting the player prefers a move to Juventus instead.

Bardell shared his views with West Ham Zone, saying:

“It tells me that Julen Lopetegui is not happy with his defenders.

“I think Todibo may see himself surpassing West Ham, especially since he is out of Europe. Obviously, they are a London club so they would pull but I think he might be waiting for a big move.

“If they could do it, that would be great. It could be the signing of a statement but it would be difficult for them to do it.”

Jean-Clair Todibo to West Ham?

Todibo has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United expressing a strong interest.

However, UEFA blocked the Manchester club from signing him due to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's stake in both United and Todibo's parent club Nice.

Despite these problems, a move to the Premier League is still a possibility for Todibo, with the Hammers still in contention.

Although reports suggest that the player would like to be transferred to Juventus, the appeal of Irons, especially being a London club, could still influence his decision.

As Lopetegui looks to strengthen his squad, the addition of Todibo would represent a significant improvement in West Ham's defence.
